The Ghost of Molly Carr

When Molly Carr walks through the woods, she doesn't make a sound,
The blue bells are in full bloom, like a carpet on the ground.
But Molly's feet don't leave a trace as she makes her way back home,
Her eyes are dull and lifeless and she wanders all alone.

If you should see her walking when the dusk turns into night,
Don't try to follow her for she'll disappear from sight.
But if the sky is clear and the moon is full and you see into her eyes,
You'll hear her sobs and feel her pain as Molly softly cries.

Her father was from Ireland, some say from County Cork,
He crossed the Irish Channel looking for some work.
She was only sixteen years and working as a maid,
When she met a handsome young man, a farrier was his trade.

If you should see her walking when the dusk turns into night,
Don't try to follow her for she'll disappear from sight.
But if the sky is clear and the moon is full and you see into her eyes,
You'll hear her sobs and feel her pain as Molly softly cries.

The young man brought her flowers and he brought her gifts of lace,
Like the bonnet that she's wearing, that frames her pretty face.
They walked the woods together and they kissed beside the stream,
And the bluebells were all dancing, and her heart was full of dreams.

If you should see her walking when the dusk turns into night,
Don't try to follow her for she'll disappear from sight.
But if the sky is clear and the moon is full and you see into her eyes,
You'll hear her sobs and feel her pain as Molly softly cries.

The young man went away one day to fight the Russian war,
In the valley of six hundred dead he was just one more.
Their's not to reason why, their's but to do and die,
Molly couldn't live alone, didn't even want to try.

If you should see her walking when the dusk turns into night,
Don't try to follow her for she'll disappear from sight.
But if the sky is clear and the moon is full and you see into her eyes,
You'll hear her sobs and feel her pain as Molly softly cries.
